We are H3RNAND3Z Educational Services. Caring, community centered, wholistic educators.

In La’Kech:

“Tú eres mi otro yo.

Si te hago daño a ti,

Me hago daño a mi mismo.

Si te amo y respeto

Me amo y respeto."

"You are my other me.

If I do harm to you,

I do harm to myself.

If I love and respect you,

I love and respect myself.”

Our values are derived from ancestrally rooted ideals in knowledge of self and our connection to the natural world/society around us.

To embody that, we honor the words of this poem, rooted in Mayan Ideals by Chicano author Luis Valdez.

In La’Kech invites us to connect to ourselves, as well as our community (and communities) we are a part of. We honor ourselves by honoring our histories, telling our stories, loving ourselves and each other. At H3RNAND3Z Educational Services, we value community, connection, care and compassion in our journeys. Let’s see how those values connect to education.

Community

Community is not a word limited to a place we live in or a place we frequent. Community goes beyond the physical space. Community means connection to people, places and things that support our stories, and our growth. People can form part of communities based on culture, interests, age, language, among other things. We aim to use the power of community to connect people to their passions, purpose and power.

Connection

Connection refers to our being in tune with ourselves first. That helps us build our connection with people and places that support us. Our connection to self is important because it helps us gain a clear vision of what we value and what is important. From there, we can build on our development through connections to our passion. The influence personal connections have on our professional and personal success are highlighted at H3RNAND3Z Ed Services.

Care

In the field of education, it is important to show up with care first and foremost. We care about you wholly. We start from the core of human connection and that’s heart. That means we want to help you reach your goals by addressing your needs from a whole person perspective. We can provide tools and strategies to support your areas of need at the time.

Compassion

We show up with compassion and care because we want people to show up the same way. We want to bring the power of the heart into our work and hope that the youth and families we work with pay it forward by teaching another. We teach one to reach one. At H3rnand3z Ed Services, we want to show up with love and compassion so that others are open and able to receive what we are teaching. Our hope is that people that learn from us will teach their own, so that together we can grow in immense ways.

OUR PEOPLE

We believe that education should be centered around knowledge of self, building and fostering community and the connection between the two.

We believe that education enables ease within our daily lives and everyone has a birthright to an education that will allow ease and encourage growth.

We are striving to make this accessible to everyone.

Miss Vee

Founder

Education Specialist, MS.Ed

Miss Vee has been supporting learners across settings for many years. She attended and graduated from UC Merced as a first generation student. She taught in the Mission District of San Francisco for years post-college. There she supported the Dual Language Immersion program (DLI) in both Spanish and English as well as the Resource Support Program (RSP) for Special Education.

After that, she went on to continue her education at CSU East Bay, where she obtained her Masters of Science in Special Education. She is currently serving as an Education Specialist in her hometown of East Oakland, California. Miss Vanessa thinks supporting youth and families is her life work, so she does it with love and passion.

Outside of being an educator and ally in community, she enjoys connecting with Mama Earth—hiking, being near the water, biking, and running. She believes that those connections to self, community and nature support her success in her career and personal development. She hopes to support people on their personal development journeys by helping them connect with themselves, their families and communities and their world around them.

Besides supporting students in the classroom, Miss Vee is involved in research surrounding social and emotional learning (SEL) and development. Her capstone research for her Masters of Education in Special Education was around the SEL and development of students across their various social settings. Miss Vee created a toolkit for families to access to support their students in attaining interpersonal and intrapersonal skills to support their development.

She is expanding on her research to write a book! The book aims to make the connection between self and the communities we work with or social groups we are a part of. Everything is connected and happens in conjunction with our own personal development. Know your history, know yourself. Know yourself, know your world.
